Posers, Starbuck Scholars and Beer Joint Politics

I will start off with  ‘ The Starbuck Scholars’

Things you might overhear, So I went to France this past summer and blah blah blah, I feel so open minded!!”

Or, “did you hear hear about Alana’s new housekeeper she is the lowest payed employee that I have ever heard of. Now I pay a real living wage.”

Then there is the classic “Did you hear that Ryan is divorcing Jill because she was sleeping with the new pool boy, who by the way is overpaid”!

These posers are so, ‘I can afford Starbucks coffee, and I am so enlightened and I have an opinion on everything in the world and I can voice it here because I’m surrounded by like minded people just like me sipping my deluxe large vente cup of coffee, and the people across the table from me will not argue with me because it’s much nicer to pretend they has a clue and go along with my crap!!!!’

People talk too much in those environs, I believe they feel obligated as soon as they get their deluxe vente to start chatting about everything, non-stop.

Go to a bar, and drink your coffee at home. Oh!!! But wait….then at the bars, well us Texans refer to that as “Beer Joint Politics.”

It’s hard to tell which is the lesser of the two evils!

People And Misguided Judgement

The American Dream, so this is what we were told to believe. Go to church, graduate from high school, and if you work hard and you are lucky you will have a  nice home in a nice neighborhood.Your wife will have a car you will have a car. You will have 3 or 4 well behaved children. Everybody will live happily ever after!

The ‘Leave It To Beaver Syndrome’. Back in the sixties, this was the normal way of thinking. a family usually consisted of Mom, Dad  and 3 or 4 kids. Not far away you had Grandmother and Grandfather and a couple of towns over was Auntie June and Uncle Lamar.

Back in those days, if you were lucky you had one TV, a radio and one car. Most people only had one  bathroom and yikes only a one car garage or carport! Back then if you had a freezer you were one of the more well to do in the neighborhood. Just imagine six people in a house with only one bathroom. Nowadays that would be considered cruel and unusual punishment.

Back in the fifties and sixties one member of the family, usually the father worked one job, forty hours a week, roughly eight hours a day to provide for a family of five.

Now fast forward to the future, 2008, fifty years ago this was a normal existence. In the year soon to be 2009, the average family might still have a Mom and Dad they probably only have one or two kids. More than likely the extended family of Grandmother and Grandfather, Auntie and Uncle live in another state.

Now you have Mom and Dad both working to hold down a job, so now you are pushing close to 100 hours of work to keep a smaller family clothed and housed and everybody happy.

If you are like me you are probably wondering what the hell happened? When did it happen? and why did it happen? Well let me explain to you what I think happened!

I think people got greedy, yea, I am talking about you and the kids you raised! You’re probably thinking this is probably a joke, well I am not joking.

Back in the old days remember you only had one TV, not one in each kids bedroom and one in the kitchen and a DVD player to go along with the TVs.

How did it come pass that it takes two people, sometimes working two jobs  to keep each American fed, clothed and housed ? The truth is that it doesn’t . It takes 2 hard working people working two or three jobs to keep their family entertained !

Now a days remember you need two refrigerators, satellite, six or more TVs same amount of DVD players plus DVDs, a laptop for everybody, plus at least one Alienware gaming computer. You have to have 4 Ipods, an Xbox a Wii, a cellphone for everybody, and gotta have texting to go with that!

Everybody in the family needs a credit card too, never mind they’re not old enough to hold down a job. Hey I am not done yet, You have to have a summer house on the lake with a big sailboat to dock by the pier! You also have to have a winter getaway preferably in another country. Of course you will also need a jet to get you to all these exotic locales.

The cost of living has gone up, but if you would realize you don’t need all of these extras you would not have to work as hard. You know what really ticks me off is when people have all these trappings and then have the nerve to complain about the cost of insurance or better yet say they can’t afford insurance!

Well I wonder why?  Is this what life is all about, watching TV and buying into the “I Gotta Have That Syndrome” and working all your life just to buy inanimate objects that might or might not keep you entertained ?

Do you have high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, or an anxiety disorder, maybe you are suffering from all of those disorders!

With the New Year just three days away, maybe you should rethink what life is all about. Is it really about buying every new toy and every new service that you or your kids decide is a necessity?

While you think about how you are going to pay all those Christmas credit card bills, and my kid is complaining about everything she didn’t get from me this Christmas. I will savor my French Roast cup of coffee in front of the raging fire, with my loyal dog Scooter, while the cold north wind howls.

Smile Your Under Arrest

Joseph M. Arpaio, America’s Toughest Sheriff ! He has a new reality show  called “Smile You’re Under Arrest.” Beginning December 27, 2008…persons with outstanding warrants are tricked into presenting themselves for arrest. The series will trick individuals with outstanding warrants into thinking they’re being awarded with prizes or money ,when in fact the police are waiting to arrest them. It premiers December 27th at 4PM on the Fox Reality channel.

Just in case you have been in a cave and haven’t heard of him, he is undoubtedly America’s toughest sheriff. Some of the outrageous changes he made in the Maricopa County Jail in Phoenix, Arizona was to erect  Tent City Jail. It was started in 1993. He got some surplus military tents.

Sheriff Joe decided he would not release any inmates due to jail overcrowding, and housed  sentenced inmates in the tents. It seemed a good idea! Currently The Tent City Jail can hold up to 2,000 inmates which houses both men and women.

Some of the more outrageous and comical changes he did included prisoners having to live without smoking, coffee and pornographic magazines! If you think that’s bad they have to eat bologna sandwiches. Now here’s the really fun stuff. The most famous of course is, he issues pink boxer shorts and pink handcuffs. He also has no tolerance for dead beat parents. Another cost effective measure he instituted to save us taxpayers money, was to eliminate salt and pepper from the jail (at a purported taxpayer savings of $20,000/year). You either love or hate this guy but hey I kinda like him. I don’t care what his detractors say about him. Now if you think all of that is bad wait til you hear this, he banned inmates from possessing “sexually explicit material” including Playboy magazine. Female officers complained that inmates openly masturbated while viewing them, or harassed the officers by comparing their anatomy to the nude photos in the publications. The ban was challenged on First Amendment

Now there is no doubt Sheriff Joe is tough but in all fairness  he has a program called ‘Hard Knocks High’ which is the only approved high school program of any American Jail.  Another jail program, is called ALPHA it is aimed solely at getting inmates away from drug abuse.

In 2007 Joe started his own radio station KJOE, which broadcasts classical music, opera, Frank Sinatra hits, obscenity-free patriotic music, and educational programming !

If we had more law enforcement people thinking like Joe, this world would be a better place, In fact he is just who we need to straighten out Congress and get our Federal Budget in order !

Smile Your Under Arrest at 4pm, check you local listings.
